Habanero Cheese Crisps

A simple spicy snack.

Here’s one of my favorite go-to, gluttonous, recipes that’s perfect for almost any occasion. With minimal ingredients or culinary skills required, you can use this Habanero Cheese Crisp recipe to impress as hors d’oeuvres at your next dinner party, fix a quick weeknight after-work snack, or throw it together for a Sunday game day appetizer.

It’s essentially shredded cheese, tossed in some additional spicy seasoning, spread out into bite-size (or not so bite-size depending on your portioning) bits, and baked to a crispy, crunchy, chip-like consistency. Similar to the recipe for the Basil & Black pepper parmesan crisps, this recipe uses shredded habanero for a spicy kick, although you could just as easily swap it out for pepper jack for a little less spiciness. Don’t forget to serve up with a side of marinara for dipping!

Time You’ll Need

  • ~5 minutes prep
  • 3-5 minutes cooking
  • Yields: 8-10 crisps depending on portioning

What You’ll Need

  • 16 oz of shredded habanero jack (or pepper jack)
  • Salt, to taste
  • Red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • ½ tbsp corn starch
  • Marinara, for dipping

What You’ll Do

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
  • Cover a baking sheet with wax paper and spray with oil. 2 baking sheets may be needed depending on size.
  • In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients together.
  • Scoop the cheese mixture into 2 tbsp size portions on the baking sheet. Make sure to spread them out evenly so the crisps won’t bake into each other.
  • Bake for about 3-5 minutes, until slightly browned. Enjoy!
