Hot Honey Apple Fries

Granny smith apple “fries” tossed up in sweet & spicy seasoning.

I love candied apples – especially when combining the tartness of a good granny smith (the best apple in my opinion) with the aromatic flavors of cinnamon and sticky brown sugar.

This recipe plays off that concept – but like most things around here – spices it up a notch. In this baked apple fry recipe, we’re adding chile powder – which you can tweak to your heat level preference. And for dipping sauce – or coating your apple fries in – go with hot chile-pepper infused honey. My go to is Mike’s Hot Honey, the OG hot honey that started it all. But you can also opt for other brands. Or try your hand at making your own.

Time You Need

  • Prep: 10 minutes
  • Cooking: ~34-45 minutes
  • Yields: ~2 servings

What You Need

  • 3-4 granny smith apples, washed, peeled, cored, and sliced into “fries”
  • 1/3 cup of brown sugar
  • ½ cup of corn starch
  • 1/3 cup of powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp chile powder
  • Hot honey for dipping

What You Do

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • Make sure your apples are patted dry with a paper towel to soak up as much moisture as possible.
  • In a medium bowl, mix together cinnamon, chile powder, corn starch, and your sugars.
  • Toss in the apple slices and mix, ensuring to coat everything evenly.
  • Bake for about 35-45 minutes, turning about halfway through. Cook longer if needed to ensure a crispy exterior.
  • Remove from oven and let cool.
  • Serve with a generous amount of hot honey.
  • Enjoy!
