McPizza

Meet the “McPizza”

What do you get when cross a pizza with a Big Mac? Say hello to the McPizza – a recipe that captures all the indulgent flavors of fast food and pizza in one delicious bite.

The recipe idea actually comes from a real pizza at one of my favorite Pizza Places – Sugar River Pizza Co. Their pizza, the MacDaddy, is a similar concept to capture that classic McDonald’s flavor. And if you’re ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping in. Not just for the MacDaddy, but their whole menu is just *chef’s kiss.*

The pizza starts off like any other, a crust rolled out and slathered in sauce. But here the sauce is thousand island. And for toppings, we’re throwing on the works. A pound of ground chuck for that beefy hamburger taste, sweet yellow onions and garlic, pickle slices, a blend of mozzarella, provolone, and sharp white cheddar bring all that Big Mac flavor together. Once it’s done baking, we’re topping off the McPizza with an extra drizzle of thousand island and a hearty helping of shredded iceberg for that classic crunch.

Time You Need

  • ~15 minutes prep
  • ~15-20 minutes cooking
  • Yields: one pizza pie

What You Need

  • 1 pound of premade or homemade pizza dough
  • 1 pound of ground beef, crumbled & cooked thoroughly (seasoning burger?)
  • 10-12 hamburger pickle slices
  • 1 ½ cups of light thousand island dressing
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup of sliced onion
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup of shredded sharp cheddar
  • 1/2 cup shredded provolone
  • ~1 cup of shredded iceberg lettuce

What You Do

  • Preheat oven to 450. Roll out pizza dough into a nice flat circle.
  • In a skillet, add some olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add onion slices and cook for 3 minutes, then add in garlic. Cook for another 4 minutes. Then remove from heat and set to the side.
  • Once oven has preheated, place dough on a greased pizza pan. Precook the dough for about 10 minutes.
  • In a small bowl, whisk thousand island with lemon juice, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne. Then spread evenly over the pizza dough.
  • Next, add the crumbled bits of ground beef evenly over the dough.
  • Sprinkle the three varieties of cheese over the pizza, and then top with onion, garlic, and pickle slices – evenly spreading the toppings over the dough.
  • Place the pizza back in the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is a nice golden brown.
  • Remove from oven and dress with shredded ice berg, and a few extra drizzle’s of thousand island. Serve and enjoy!
