Pick 6 Poems Vol. V

Pick 6 Standout: New Glarus Dancing Man

(What is a pick 6 poem? Click here to find out.)

A Whole Lotta Wheat Beer.

Abita – Creole Cream Ale – 5.0% – Cream Ale

Sweet and crisp, with a slight hoppy kick. The dominant flavors were caramelly, grainy malts, a bit of vanilla, and then some floral pine hops. There’s also that rice water flavor, that you get from similar to a bud heavy. But this is better than that by far.

‘Creole
Cream Ales are
the kind of beers that build
pie in the sky pyramids, sweet
simplicity.’

Revolution – Sun Crusher – 5.3% – Pale Wheat Ale

Citrus and grassy are the two things I tasted. It’s got some wheat bready flavor, paired with zesty/tangy hops.

‘Suncrush-
-er says it all
summer citrus floating
in fields golden grassy wheat filled
prairie.’

Boulevard – Unfiltered Wheat – 4.4%  – Pale Wheat Ale

Hazy and straw colored. A slight lemon flavor, but also banana. But predominantly grain and wheat notes.

‘Fleeting
summers spend drink-
-ing golden wheat water.
Boulevard brewed a star, unfilt-
-ered reach. ‘

Saugatuck – Starburst Wheat – 5.1% – Pale Wheat Ale

It has that bready, cracker malt flavor, with lemon zest, and something sweet, almost like honey, and more fruit. Just a noticeable amount of floral hop bitterness.

‘Zesty
lemon wheat star
burst shines sweet with honey
floral fruits nesting in beds of
barley.’

New Glarus – Dancing Man – 7.2% – Hefeweizen

Sweet, fruit notes – with the dominant banana flavor. It’s smooth, with small notes of spices, like cinnamon and clove, with hints of vanilla.

‘Dancing
banana
drink divine deity
cinnamon banana, shut up
and dance.’

Hinterland –  Door County Cherry Wheat – 5.4% –  Fruit ale

Tart cherries and more wheat, bready flavor. Not bad at all.

‘Cherry
wheat, cherry sweet
Door County Eden-like
this beer, a looking glass looking
gorgeous.’
