Pick 6 Poems Vol. I

Pick 6 Standout: Door County Brewing Le Printemps

(What is a pick 6 poem? Click here to find out.)

6 beers
A good looking group to start.

1. Abita– Seersucker Summer Pilsner – 4.8% – German Pilsner

This was a pretty smooth, easy drinking pilsner. It had a little hint of hopped spiciness show through, but was predominantly highlighted with malty, bready, sweet biscuit notes. Some other flavors I noticed were a bit of a floral lemongrass, and crisp wheat taste.

‘Abita
easy malt and
grain flavor, hint of hop
and a real summer thirst quencher.
Seersucker.’

2. Southern Tier– Nuskool IPA – 6% – American IPA

This IPA was very fruit forward, with great tropical notes and some piney ones too. I got a lot of mango, pineapple, and citrus flavor that finished with a tinge of maltiness.

‘Tropic
forward flavor
Nu Skool is my kind of
beer, a great style from Southern Tier.
Another.’

3. Door County Brewing – Le Printemps – 6% – Farmhouse Ale

This was crisp and refreshing. Farmhouse ales are really growing on me, especially with spring in full swing. Le Printemps had some floral and citrus flavor that finished with a nice black pepper spiced kick. Other notes that I tasted were of lemon and wheat.

‘Strong of
spring, crisp spiced wheat
and lemon, Le Printemps
tastes like warming sun and heaven
earthy.’

4. Ale Asylum– 12 oz. Curl – 5.2% – German Pilsner

This was very light, with bready, cracker like flavor. After the grainy wheat, it ends with a nice spiced hop flavor. As with most of Ale Asylum’s offerings, it’s done right.

‘Simple
spice note pilsener
classic yet emboldened
by straw wheat flavor golden, 12
oz. curl.’

5. Alaskan Brewing Company– Husky IPA – 7% – American IPA

A beautifully hopped mosaic beer. It’s sweet, floral, and filled with tropical fruit flavor. The sweetness is balanced by the bitterness. It also has a slick, resiny flavor that you feel on the tongue, and hidden behind the explosive mosaic flavor, is a hint of malt sweetness.

‘Mosaic
hopped and fresh fruit
fierce explosion, hints of
malt hidden behind my favorite
hop.’

6. 10 Barrel Brewing– Joe IPA – 6.9% –  American IPA

This IPA had a nice hoppy pine smell, with some big floral hop and citrus flavor, followed by a heavy, bready, biscuity backbone. An overall earthy flavor to it.

‘Big Joe
my no-nonsense
Oregon IPA
citrus fruit floral marries sweet
caramel.’
